Antidepressants

If you are a loyal consumer of GT&F Products, now you would have known very very well that the essential substance, trivalent chromium in the products, other than providing great boost in curbing diabetes, it also have great potential in curbing depression.

In one of the December issues in Archives of Internal Medicine, a study was conducted by gathering some 136,000 plus participants, whereby the participants were aged between 50 to 79 years old.

In this study, researchers had compared two groups of participants where one group consists of participants who did not take antidepressants, while the other group consist of participants who took antidepressants. The researchers compared the two groups in respect to the incidence of fatal or non fatal stroke, heart attack, as well as death due to all causes.

As the result of the study, it shows that there was no significant difference in coronary heart disease, but the significance in fatal or non-fatal stroke cannot be neglected. Antidepressant users experienced a 45% higher risk of encountering strokes. As for mortality rate, antidepressant users have 32% higher risks in death rate compared to those who are non-antidepressant users.

However, it still remains unclear on whether antidepressants solely responsible for greater mortality rate of users. But overall, the study did suggest a conclusion that postmenopausal women who take antidepressants face a small but statistically significant increased risk for stroke and death compared with those who do not take the drugs

Kenali Hati Diri Anda dan GTF

Pn, Masrisa, a very senior nutritionist and an expecting mother who is going to give birth soon had delivered a talk related to liver and GTF on 28/12/2009 (Monday).

From the talk, the audience were well-informed that the liver is the largest single organ in the human body. The liver has more than 200 functions and plays a central role in nearly all body functions, including detoxifies the blood by filtering out the toxins such as air pollutants, pesticides, cigarette smoke, environmental chemicals, alcohol, prescription and nonprescription drugs that assault the body on a regular basis. There are over 100 types of liver diseases, let’s say jaundice, loss of sexual drive etc and because of it's many functions, many can be life-threatening unless treated. Hence, it is very important for maintainence of liver health.

Chromium is crucial for liver health because it helps control the metabolism of glucose, which is the most bioavailable form of muscle energy in nature. Good liver health depends on trace minerals like chromium. The liver needs chromium to manufacture fatty acids, lecithin, cholesterol and lipoproteins. Without chromium, blood fats tend to rise because the liver cannot filter them out.

Chromium is the central atom in the “glucose tolerance factor” (GTF), a hormone-like compound that works with insulin to transport glucose out of the blood and into the cells. Glucose is the body’s quickest fuel. GTF (containing niacin, vitamin B3, glycine, cysteine, glutamic acid etc.) enhances insulin, which results in the sugars passing quicker into the cells and in that way they are removed from the bloodstream. By stabilizing the blood sugar level it also assists in regulating the cholesterol in the blood. When this function (GTF) is not working properly, the cells resist insulin and do not properly absorb the glucose needed for energy. With chromium present in the diet, the intestines can produce GTF. However, food processing destroys much of the chromium content in foods and natural chromium levels decline with age and so with the action of the GTFinside our body.

Hence, GT&F® milk powder which is a patented biotechnology product serves as the best choice for GTF supplementation. The unique structure – Lactoferrin Chromium mimics the natural chormium inside mother breast milk thus it eases the best absorption of GTF by our body and allows cells to receive the glucose and nutrient needed from our daily diet. When body cells are healthy, indirectly our whole body system will be healthy as well since cell is the smallest unit to build up organ and system.

Before she ended the talk, she had also shared some of the testimonials that reflected the effectiveness of GT&F® for liver diseases.

Ho Ho Ho!

A very familiar phrase in this festive season. You better watch out, it just because Santa Claus is coming to town!

In more than 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ was the main character in Christmas, but things are gradually replaced by the heavily commercialized Santa Claus.

Hence, whenever Christmas is just around the corner, people would tend to think of Santa instead. Santa, gives us a perception which is a round, super-chubby, dress in red and white colored exclusive Santa robe, flying across the moon and stars with his sledge, presents galore in his bag, and so many more symbolic characteristics.

Dr. Nathan Grills from Monash University said that Santa should change his image instead, by getting off his sleigh and walk, so that he could lose weight, so that he could stop promoting unhealthy living as well as obesity. Santa is also said to promote drink-driving as he drinks gallons of brandy as he rounds on Christmas Eve.

But whatever it is, this is the festive season, and we should all come together and celebrate it, but just remember not to follow Santa lifestyle as far as his health is concerned. Instead of gulping brandy, why not consuming GT&F Milk everyday?

Hereby, GTF wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Diabetes & Glaucoma

A contractor, in his forties, learned that he had diabetes. About 10 years ago, this person went to consult the doctor in order to deal with any vision problems that he suffered. The consulted doctor found that there was a very high intraocular pressure in both eyes of this contractor. Such so-called high intraocular pressure is a very obvious sign of a person having glaucoma. Doctor kept prescribing different types of eyedrops, hoping that the contractor's eyes could be cured, but unfortunately, the treatments did not seem to work, until he underwent a laser procedure followed by continuous eye drop medications which successfully reduced his intraocular pressure.

Cited from wikipedia, glaucoma is a disease that affects the optic nerve as well as involving the loss of retinal ganglion cells in a characteristic pattern. As the example quoted above, ocular pressure is a significant factor in why glaucoma could occur. At a relatively low pressure in the eye, we might develop some nerve damages, while there are also some people who may have high pressure in the eye for years but yet, never develop damage. Nicknamed "Sneak Thief of Sight", untreated glaucoma might steal the sight of the infected individual and eventually causes blindness.

In a recent study, it suggests that people with diabetes face special risks from glaucoma. Both diabetes and glaucoma are said to have a few symptoms which are quite similar. Before the infected individuals are aware of the problems, severe damages could have occurred in their eyes. There are many studies out there which could prove that diabetics are more likely to develop glaucoma, and there are also other studies which suggest that glaucoma patients with diabetes disease are more likely to suffer vision damages. These studies indicated how closely diabetes and glaucoma are related to each other.

While everyone else who suffers glaucoma and at the same time, a diabetes sufferer, trying hard in applying eye medications from doctors, many times they do not realize the root of the problem, and consequently, they do not solve the real problem lying beneath them. Diabetes, apart from being regarded as the root of most of the metabolic syndromes, now vision complications such as glaucoma is very well included under that list.

GT&F Products offer consumers many benefits, especially benefits in curbing the hazardous diabetes. The precious trivalent chromium content in those products could very well enhance insulin signalling in your body. As a result, other metabolic syndromes and body systems, not forgetting possibly glaucoma, can also be improved.

To Watch or Not To Watch?

When we get bored, we prefer to sit back and relax. If there is a complete set of television which is fully equipped with amazing sound system, that could probably sufficient to wrap up the rest of the day. No doubt, television brings us fantastic programs which have the ability to attract us, glue our butts onto the seat.

Perhaps, that is most people culture, be it Asians or Westerners. Eyes on the TV set, is a normal thing to do, and it has becoming a routine for each one of us. In addition, many of us are very well aware that addicting to TV programs for a certain number of hours is not beneficial to us, particularly our health.

A latest study suggests that adults weighing above the healthy range (in other words, individuals who are overweight) could burn more calories by watching less television. This study was the work of University of Vermont researchers, and it appears in the December issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.

The lead author Dr. Jennifer Otten, suggested that other sedentary activities, such as chatting on the phone, and even reading, actually burns more calories compare to spending time in front of the television. This team of researchers had conducted a trial to look at how reducing the amount of time spent on watching television could affect energy expenditure, body weight, calorie consumption, level of activity and other related attributes, in adults who were deemed overweight.

Researchers recruited 36 adults to participate in this study. Among 20 of htem were chosen at random to cut their TV viewing by 50 per cent for 3 weeks, while the remaining of the adults were treated as the control group.

Surprisingly, for those 20 adults who were chosen to halve their amount of time in viewing the TV, they eventually burn 120 calories more than those in the control group. But how much exactly 120 calories is? Dr. Otten said 120 calories a day of energy which they burned off is equivalent to walking more than a mile.

Babyface

In this sophisticated society, females who are in their younger ages, hope to keep their beauty for an eternity, they hope so badly that their youthful looks will not deteriorate in the future. What about males? Younger males who looked young, often are not satisfied with their own looks, they prefer to look older, or in other words, more matured despite their youthful ages.

If we look at this issue in the males' point of view, will this do any good? Looking matured enough at certain age perhaps could make them more marketable, but how about in the perspective of health? Think again!

A recent study which is published in the Christmas issue of bmj.com claims that people who look young for their actual age enjoy a longer life than their years.

Professor Kaare Christensen, from the University of Southern Denmark, had led a team of researchers to examine whether perceived age is linked with survival. This research team had investigates a total of 1,826 Danish twins whom were aged 70 years and over , and had them underwent physical and cognitive tests, back then in the year of 2001.

Photographs of the faces of these twins were taken, and these photographs weer assessed by appointed individuals, including: 20 female geriatric nurses aged 25 to 46, 10 male student teachers aged 22 to 37, 11 older women aged 70 to 87. These individuals rated their perceived ages by assessing the facial photographs.

After 7 years, death records were used to track the twins survival. What really shocking to the result of the study was, the perceived age seemed to be closely related to the survival of those individuals. The bigger the difference in perceived age within a twin pair, the more likely was that the older looking twin died first. This findings can be concluded that facial photographs proved to be a strong biomarker of ageing.

So young men, do you still think being older is a cool stuff to do?

Irregular Arm Swing

Central nervous system plays a very important part in our body, for it functions to coordinate the activity of all parts of our bodies. But when there is any occurrence of degenerative disorder upon the central nervous system, that certain individual would suffer impairment such as the retardation of motor skills, speech, and other essential functions; and such disorder, is very well-known as Parkinson's Disease.

Recently, neurologists in the United States suggested that normal people, like you and me, can actually estimate ourselves whether or not a person has Parkinson's Disease, merely through plain observation.

What they have suggested, is that when individuals walking with irregular arm swings, that could very well be an early sign of Parkinson's Disease. So, what kind of arm swing patterns should we take note on?

According to experts, they claimed that decreased arm swing while walking is the most frequently reported motor dysfunction in people with such disease (Parkinson's Disease). They also postulated that individuals who have Parkinson's Disease, their upper bodies are not as well documented as for the lower bodies in the early stages of the disease.

Lead & Anxiety

Global warming, the melting of icebergs in the extreme ends of the world, all thse undesirable consequences are all results of human doings. And thus, nowadays, many developed as well as developed countries such as Malaysia, are calling up all other countries to join forces to tackle such problems, hoping that aftermaths which we have foreseen in the famous movie, 2012, would not happen, or won't occur as quickly as expected.

That is why, many countries and industries are introducing many green technologies and green techniques in order to curb many poisonous as well as harmful gases to our mother earth, as well as to human. One of those gases, is lead (Pb).

One of the JAMA/Archives journals in December issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, suggested that lead, a well-known neurotoxicant that is ubiquitous in the environment, when exposed to individuals who categorized within the adult populations, the neurotoxic effect could be greater than that experienced by the general population.

Maryse F. Bouchard, Ph.D., M.Sc., of hte University de Montreal, Canada suggested that low-level of lead exposure could disrupt brain processes, where these processes are the ones which involve neurotransmitters that are associated with depression and panic disorder. As for those who have experienced depression or any related disorders, exposure to lead could further trigger its development, causing them more severe.

Since GTF Products contain adequate amount of trivalent chromium, and it's been further proven that trivalent chromium which existed in it could very well suppress depression, plus other good benefits as far as suppressing metabolic syndromes is concerned, there is no reason why you do not need this product.

Protein Balancing Instead

By following the historical datas found out by many scientists and researchers, cutting down in calories intake appear to be the main factor in waving your hands, welcoming many health benefits into your body, and many others too, they believe that by restricting calorie intake, you can also increase your longevity, ie: your lifespan.

But such restriction, must be presented in such a way that the diet contains enough vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, for they are vital in keeping many organisms, including mice, rats , Rhesus monkeys and fruit flies to live in longer times and acquiring a better health.

Researchers from UCL Institute of Healthy Ageing were putting efforts in an investigation about whether it is by restricting calorie intake that led to increased health benefits, or just by reducing specific nutrients we take in?

For the study which is published in the journal of Nature, the researchers discovered that by varying the amounts and proportions of amino acids (that is, the building blocks of life, where they are the simplest unit which make up various kinds of proteins and complex compounds that take part in majority of the processes which are essential to keep to organisms to be alive) in the diet, lifespan and fertility of female fruit flies could be affected greatly. Fruit flies, although do not look like human, and we have four times the number of genes that they have, but many genetic discoveries suggested that how their genes behave, can often be matched with human counterparts.

The researchers found that the methionine, one of the essential amino acids, was crucial in determining the lifespan and fertility of an organism. When they added it to a low calorie diet, fertility is boosted without reduction in lifespan. And strangely, when they reduced its amount in a high calorie diet, lifespan is extended instead.

In other words, key to healthy long life could lie in balancing protein intake rather than calorie restriction. But further investigation and researches are needed to be done before clearer pictures can be presented to the public.

Risk of Knee Arthritis

For fellow distributors who have shown his or her utmost loyalty to GTF, the 6-in-1 super discovery certainly is not something which is unfamiliar. One of the benefits about GTF products is the magnificent substances inside could actually improve inflammations in your body. Speaking about inflammation, many could relate that word with "arthritis".

Arthritis is a group of conditions involving damage to the joints of the body (cited from Wikipedia). There are many types of arthritis which comes in different forms. Among all the different types of inflammations, the most common form would be osteoarthritis. This form of arthritis is a result of infection of the joint or age-related. Today, we are going to discuss about one of the osteoarthritis, knee arthritis.

A new study by Christoph Stehling and fellow colleagues suggest that middle-aged men and women who do lots of exercises, particularly exercises which involve high impact activities such as running and jumping. These activities might unknowingly causing serious damage to their knees and putting themselves at high risk of developing osteoarthritis.

The researchers concluded that for individuals who carried higher physical activities may expose to greater risks for cartilage and meniscal abnormalities. In the contrary, low-impact activities such as swimming and cycling may protect diseased cartilage and prevent health cartilage from developing disease. However, more studies are needed to carried out to make further confirmation on the effect of low and high impact activities with the progression of inflammation.

OPP – Diabetes Care: How to Choose Your Foods

Diabetes is a disease that can not be cure thoroughly, hence, diabetes care is a lifelong responsibility and all patients must take round-the-clock commitment. Careful diabetes care can reduce the risk of serious or even life-threatening diabetes complications.

Keep a well-controlled diet as one of the ways to care for diabetes. Diabetic Diet for diabetics is simply a balanced healthy diet which is vital for diabetic treatment, however, a lot of people have the misconception that these diet consist only diabetic foods. Thus, Ms.Sunny Yong has kindly delivered a talk entitled “ Diabetes Care: How to choose your foods” on 23rh November 2009 (Monday). A diabetic must understand that making wise food choices will help them feel good everyday and even reduce their blood glucose level to a target range. To control the intake of sugar means to control the intake of carbohydrate foods. The Glycemic Index (GI) is a ranking of foods based on the glucose response by body after a meal, compared with a reference food (normally glucose or white bread). Meaning if we ate a plate of fried rice, it will result in a certain increase in blood glucose. Different foods result in different responses from the body. For instance, if we drank 50 grams of pure glucose diluted in water, we would trigger a much higher GI response than if you consumed 50 grams of fructose (fruit sugar), which is a low GI carbohydrate. They must learn how to select foods, included what type of foods as well as how much to eat.

Next up, Crown manager Mr. Wong Tiam Choy has also gave a motivation talk with a title of “The characteristics of a successful man”. Success is not the destination, but are the steps we take on the path to our destination. In order to succeed, we must successfully navigate the path to our dreams, goals, and objectives. Everyman wants to be successful isn’t it? Becoming a successful man is not an easy task! There are certain qualities that are absolutely necessary if you would like to become successful in any ventures. The successful ones share some common traits, such as persistent, avid goal settler, passionate, work hard, show value, courage and others.

How does She Quit?

Surprisingly, when men smoke, people tend to treat that as a normal phenomenon, but when you see a woman or a female smokes in front of you, a bad perception and impression might strike your mind out of a sudden.

What makes women smoke? Many would have guess that they smoke, because, they experienced the same thing men do. Many times, they blamed that on stressful situation at work, problems in marriage and so on.

But according to a new meta-analysis (results of several studies), it suggests that women do not quit smoking because they are afraid of gaining weight. True enough, scientifically, nicotine which presents in the cigarette has the ability to suppress one's appetite and boosts a smoker's metabolism. But the after effect of smoking could be hazardous as it could cause death by shortening your life span greatly.

So, for those female smokers, how should they quite smoking? Is there any other alternatives where it helps female smokers to quite smoking? Gratefully, the mentioned findings suggest that women who quit smoking while receiving treatment for weight control are better ablt to control their weight gain and are more successful at quitting cigarettes.

Based on a recent paper which published in the Journal of Addiction, the study showed that women who addressed both smoking treatment as well as weight control treatment were 29 percent more likely to quit smoking in short term (about three months) and 23 percent in the long term (about six to fourteen months), compare to those who only conduct smoking treatment.

This latest study would certainly encourage more and more females to quit smoking as it encouraging as far as weight management is concerned.

Alarming Increase

Loyola University has conducted a latest study on diabetic patients recently, and the result of their research suggested that one out of five Type 2 diabetics is morbidly obese. This article focuses only on US diabetics. But although the United States appear to be a well known Western country, while the country we're currently living in, Malaysia, is an Eastern country. Two far continents do not seem to have any intimate connections with each other. If you think that way, you're probably wrong, as diseases are normally circulated from the Western side towards the Eastern side.

In this article too, we will be looking at some statistics about the diabetics in the United States:

Based on Dr. Holly Kramer, a kidney specialist and lead author of the study published online in the Journal of Diabetes and its complications, as well as fellow researchers, between the study periods between the year of 1976-1980 and 2005-2008, there was an alarming 141 percent of increase in the rate of morbid obesity among adults with Type 2 Diabetes.

In regards to that, they also found that the greatest growth in obesity has been among diabetics who are morbidly obese. Approximately two-thirds of adults in the United States with Type 2 Diabetes are obese and about one third of them without diabetes are obese. If we look into BMI, obesity is defined as having a BMI value greater than 30, but based on the findings between 1976-2006, the average BMI of Type 2 Diabetics increased to 34.2.

If such phenomenon does not come to a halt, as a result, more and more diabetics will resides within us. Without hesitating, drink GTF Milk Powder now to boost your defense against the deadly diabetes!

Thoughtful Words in Marriage

In many Western countries, the divorce rate is especially extremely high if making comparison with the divorce rate in many Asian countries. Many seem to treat this phenomenon as a norm, and nobody really does something which is considered beneficial to it, or in other words, things which could salvage the marriage. Though, many couples or spouse did, but what about the scientist? Do they ever look in depth on this one?

All of us know that fighting or quarrels within a marriage sometimes are inevitable, but of course, we tend to avoid these things from happening as best as we possibly could. But if we are trapped under such circumstance, what should we do? Are we just going to take a deep breath and count silently from 1 to 10 in order to swallow it? Would that be effective? Many individuals do not think so. This method, to many people, seems like one "solution" which does not solve the problem up front, but more like avoids in facing the reality.

During a fight between couples, tension and stressful situations seem to prevail. But today, we are not only talking about one of the latest marriage salvation method, but what we are going to discuss today, could also resulting in bringing health benefits to the couples.

A recent study shows that individuals in a stressful situation (ie: in a troubled relationship), tends to have elevated levels of cytokines (a kind of protein). When this kind of protein is elevated to an abnormally high level, visible problems could be seen by appearing in the forms of illnesses, such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, arthritis (all sorts of metabolic syndromes) and even cancers.

Instead of fighting with just by spilling out unthoughful words during quarreling, researchers suggested that by linking cognitive processing, that is, by using thoughful words which involve events of think, because, reason, why, people tend to be making sense of the conflict or at least thinking about it in a deep way.

The results of the researchers suggest that people who used more cognitive words during the fights showed a smaller increase in IL-6 (Interleukin-6) and TNF-alpha, where both are very familiar pro-inflammatory cytokines, especially to GTF distributors.

Jennifer Graham, assistant professor of biobehavioral health, surprisingly speculates that women, who are more adept at communication, tend to use cognitive words more often than men, a gender which is more prone in thinking things in logical ways; and the cognitive words used by women also have bigger impacts on their husbands.

Mental Budget

Economic meltdown has caused a lot of people to cut down their budgets in making purchases. For economic downturn, more liquidal assets such as cash or money are involved, but have you ever thought of things like "Mental Food Budget"?

Instead of cutting off the amount of money you spend, Mental Food Budget requires you to cut down the calories or foods you take in order to keep your body healthy. Sticking to a "mental budget", you might help yourself in slimming by losing weight and follow healthier diet plans.

Based on statistics, Malaysians take in large amount of processed foods instead of foods that are more organic, and people who do not stick to a healthy diet and instead sticks to these processed food would be more likely to suffer from depression.

Journal of Consumer Research revealed that by keeping a count of sweet and fattening snacks consumed using a point system can help people on a weight loss programme. The study suggested that by controlling intake of non-healthy foods could help many dieters in losing weight.

Researchers have found several patterns on Mental Food Budget. Firstly, it is insufficient if you have a mental budget alone in your mind, instead of just having that concept in mind, individuals must have an active goal. Secondly, individuals need to have accurate information about the products needed to match the units of mental budgets. Third and last of all, mental budget can only be succeeded if individuals followed specific numerical recommendations.

Great Dark Chocolates

In a recent study, Nestle researchers suggested that by just eating a few pieces of dark chocolates every day, it could improve the metabolic response of people who feel very stressful. As far as stress level is concerned, dark chocolate is also known as the best stress and anxiety reliever.

A researcher from Nestle Reseaarch Center in Lausanne, Switzerland, Sunil Kochhar, along with his team of researchers, had investigated the metabolic response in group of 30 adult volunteers who were healthy. These individuals were asked to consume 20g of dark chocolate everyday, for 2 weeks consecutively.

After the given period, the researchers found out through their urine and blood plasma samples, that subjects with higher anxiety trait had a distinct metabolic profile, and dark chocolate really does reduce the amount of stress hormone cortisol and catecholamines in the urine. In conjunction to the result, Kochhar suggested that consuming dark chocolate saily could positively impact the metablism of people that report in having high-stress levels.

But chocolate seems to be the nemesis for diabetic patients. Diabetes patients are usually afraid of sweet foods and confectionery. But some other studies also suggested that dark chocolate contains relatively lower in sugar, and appears to be one of the ways to fight diabetes, claiming the statement that "you can fight diabetes even by consuming chocolates". But how true it is, we barely know exactly about it. What we do know is, GTF Milk Powder can definitely help you to reduce sugar level.

Text Messaging?

Recalling back to the olden days, people are using big, black handsets. These big and black handsets have the size of a huge plastic bottles which we're using nowadays. Now, whenever modern people like us have a thought about these types of old handsets, we could not help but express a broad scornful smile in our hearts secretly. In addition, these handsets back then, were only functioned as a tool to receive calls as well as calling out to the others.

Now, the phones we have today are getting more and more sophisticated, and their sizes, of course.... are getting tinier and tinier that they can fit so easily inside our little pockets. As the technology advances through the days, handsets which are used to just receiving or making calls appeared to be very lame gadgets. What handset users, especially those young ones usually expected today, are texting messages to other users.

Recently, studies have been conducted to show evidences that texting activities can be as hazardous as sitting in front of the computers all day long. For those people who sit for long periods at computers, such as office workers, diseases such as carpal tunnel syndrome is a common one, and based on preliminary findings, asistant professor Judith Gold found that among college students, the more frequent they texted, the more pain they would experienced in necks and shoulders.

Aspirin Really Works?

Aspirin has been long established as a drug which aids heart attack patients.

How does it work? Cited from wikipedia, aspirin actually has an antiplatelet effect by inhibiting thromboxane production. This thromboxane usually binds platelet molecules and thus create a patch over damage of the wall within the blood vessels.

Low doses of aspirin could do wonders to patients who experience heart attacks, strokes and also blood clot formation. Aspirin has been established that by utilizing a low doses of it, for instant immediately after a heart attack, the risk of another heart attack or the death of cardiac tissue can be reduced.

As a matter of fact, aspirin is taken by individuals who have already had problems such as heart attack or stroke as secondary prevention, the benefits are well established. But currently, many people, especially those who do not have any symptoms of heart attack, but are known to be at risk in having it, they tend to take low doses of aspirin to prevent the occurrence of the disease.

However, DTB (Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin) does not seem to encourage such groups of people (who do not have symptoms) to take low dosage of aspirin for the sake of mere prenvention as the potential risk of serious gastrointestinal bleeds could be deadly.

Flu, Go Away!

Here it is again, the rainy season. When you flip open the newspapers, you would probably notice sudden flood which occurred in many countries, even in some remote places in Malaysia too had become the latest victims of flood.

Well, of course we are not talking about floods over here, but, a highly popular diseases which closely connected to the current rainy season. Yes, as an intelligent reader, you are correct, flu it is!

Especially for individuals who have sinus problems all their lives, rainy days appear to be even more troublesome. When these individuals first open their eyes, waking up from their 7 or 8-hour dreamland, they would probably listening to themselves sniffing, and found themselves caught a flu.

The only solution to fight against flu, would be a strong immune system. Other than consuming GT&F products, which could boost your immune system in no time, bounty amount of fruits and vegetables, especially those with vibrant colors, could also boost your immune system greatly!

A new study in America, found that 8 in 10 Americans who were lacking in colorful fruits and vegetables consumption, appear to have serious phytonutrient gap. The study primarily based on five color categories of fruits and vegetables, namely green, red, white, blue/purple and yellow, as well as the phytonutrients found in each category.

For optimal health, two foods from each of the 5 color categories are especially vital, and if it's possible, make it a total of 10 servings each day. In no time, you'll then regain your superb immune system!

Evidence in Visceral Fats Reduction

For those of you who have been coming forward to GTF Worldwide Sdn Bhd for quite some time now, the company's nutritionists must have examined your Body Mass Composition (BMI) and the amount of your subcutaneous fats as well as visceral fats.

If you found out that the level of subcutaneous fats appeared to be quite high, it won't worry you that much, but what could really make you worry, is the high amount of visceral fats. For your information, visceral fats are non-visible, but although it is not visible, it is highly hazardous as it could grab a person's life should its amount reaches a very high level.

After each examination, individuals who have been tested in possessing high amount of visceral fats, would usually consult the nutritionists about the routes and effective methods which could reduce these unnecessary fats. Although exercising always seemed to be one of the suggested solutions, but visitors often doubt about its effectiveness.

A study about the effectiveness of exercising in warding off dangerous visceral fats has been published online on 8th October 2009, this particular study will next to appear in a future print edition of the journal Obesity.

The study was consisted of participants whom are divided into two groups. One group them of undergo 40 minutes exercise regimen such as aerobic training and resistance training, and another group does not do any exercise at all. These participants were asked to consume 800 calories of diet each day. This condition was maintained over a year of time.

After a critical year later, what the researchers found was for those who underwent exercises, despite modest weight regained, they have regained of zero visceral fats. While for those who did not do any exercise at all, the study showed that they regained 33% of visceral fats averagely.

Smoking vs Exercise

Several articles about smoking have been published within this blog site, and we believe that all the people who live in this world, know very well that smoking can cause harmful effects in human health. People are just listing out the bad aftermaths of smoking, but today, we are going to show you a latest findings which could very well reduce the frequency of smoking for smokers.

In the journal, Addiction, it states that exercise can help smokers to quite smoking because it does help in making cigarettes less attractive than how it should. This study was from the University of Exeter, which shows for the first time that exercise can actually lessen the power of cigarettes and any smoking-related images which could attract smokers.

A very recent technology which is called the eye-tracking technology, is used in this study. The purpose of the utilization of this new technology is to record and measure the eye movements of participants in this study. This study, which involved 20 moderately heavy smokers, seemed to be an effectively one as far as the attractiveness of smoking-related images to the smokers is concerned.

This study showed that there's a little bit difference between the participants who have undergone exercises compared to those who did not. According to the outcome of the eye-tracking technology, simple exercise such as 15-minutes brisk walking could reduce the cravings or responses to any smoking cues.

OPP – How to consume GT&F®

It is thought that chromium supplements are the second-most commonly consumed nutritional supplement in the United States where estimated total 500 millions of US Dollars expenses for it per annum. Chromium is an essential element in humans and chromium deficiency is associated with the development of diabetes and others complication. It is the key that control the utilization of glucose by body cells as well as affect the metabolism rate of human body.

Dr. Lim Li Yi has delivered a talk related to the consumption of GT&F® product on 26th Octorber 2009 (Monday). She first descrided some facts about why we need to replenish GTF, followed by the recommended ways of consumption. She stressed that GT&F® milk powder is a complete natural food and will never give negative effect to human body unless we overeat to take 350 times of 200mg chromium daily. In other words, if you drink 350 sachets of GT&F® milk powder per day then merely give you a negative health effect. During the Q&A session, the audiences were quite active in asking questions related to GTF and health.

Next up, Mr. Tan Tien Long (Crown Manager) has also delivered a talk on GTF Marketing Plan. The marketing plan can be thought of as the practical application of your marketing strategy. Running a successful business is not like a field of dreams, you can build it but they might not come. You must able leting people know about the product or service you offer and persuading them to buy or use it. And for effective marketing you have to let people know about your product or service repeatedly. Taking fifteen minutes a day to review your marketing objectives, marketing plan, and marketing activities goes a long way towards helping you stay focused and on track and market your products or services effectively.

OPP – Health and Motivation Talk

Diabetes is a chronic disease with no cure. IDF released up-to-dated data showing that a staggering 285 million people worldwide have diabetes. Diabetes explodes worldwide and it has become a development issue, not only threatens health but also economic prosperity. Hence, we should not take it easy when we come to diabetes issue.

There is now scientific evidence that GTF is the saviour of diabetes. Gratefully, Ms. Sunny Yong, a nutritionist of GTF company has delivered a talk on GTF for human health and beauty on 19thOctober 2009 (Monday). According to her talk, GTF is the base element for human body. It is the key to let blood glucose enter into body cells so to turn it into energy as well as nutrients needed by cells. If we lack of GTF and didn’t take effort to replenish, our metabolism will slowly become adnormal and cause metabolic syndrome, followed by other chronic diseases. And, for GTF supplement, GT&F milk powder will be the best selection due to it special feature of lactoferrin chromium that emulate mother breast milk and ease fast absorption rate. The concept of health and beauty is based on our body cells, when body cells are healthy, our body will be healthy as well because body built from trillion of cells.

Next up, Mr. Wong Tiam Choy has also gave a motivation talk to the auiences. He told the audiences that positive thinking is a mental attitude that admits into the mind thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favorable results. We have to take the power of positive mindset in order to succeed in every aspects because when we do not believe in ourselves, we will really become failure at last. Thus, think positive and increase your happiness and joy in life.

Juggle Your Brain

Before we proceed further with today's article, let's see what our brain consists of. Previously, there already had been many articles which talk about the brain, but do you know how our brain actually works? Firstly, brain consists of the famous grey matter and white matter. While the third component would be an area which is called substantia nigria.

For today, we would just focus on the two famous matters which everyone is talking about. For the first one, grey matter is a major component of the central nervous system where its function is to create a bridge between sensory or motor stimulus to interneurons, which in turns stimulate a response through chemical synapse activity.

On the other hand, the white matter composed of bundles of axons, and carry nerve impulses between neurons. The white matter is the tissue through which messages pass between different areas of grey matter within the nervous system.

To make things sound simpler, the grey matter is like an actual computer itself, whereas the white matter is like the network cables connecting the computer together (cited from Wikipedia).

Now that we scarcely know these two matters, let's focus back on the display picture of this article with the brain. So what juggling got to do with the brain?

A study led by Dr. Heidi Johansen-Berg, a Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellow at the University of Oxford, found that the structure of white matter of an adult brain changes after practising juggling extensively.

The study consisted of 48 volunteers who were then asked to learn and practise juggling. After their 6-week training, those who trained and practised showed changes in their white matter and these changes prove to be a very healthy and positive alteration which improves the brain connection of human.

Although juggling has now been proven that it exerts certain effects on human brain, other stimulating activities which keep the brain working such as going for a walk or doing a crossword puzzle are also great activities which encouraged by Johansen-Berg.

Be Overweight?

Never mind what we have learned in the past that as far as health is concerned, we should watch out on our weight in order not allowing it to stretch up or down the ideal number which we have always desired. But today, it seems quite contradictory for us to accept that, there's actually a study which tells the people that, being overweight, not only is not a psychological sin, it might also be the direction where everyone should head to. Why is that?

Contrary to what was previously assumed, particularly the Germans, University of Hamburg has conducted a study which preliminarily shown that being overweight can extend the lifespan of an individual. But please be really clear about the distinctive differences between obesity and overweight.

According to Viriilplant.com, an overweight individual, has the BMI readings between 25-29.9. While for individuals whom are considered obese, their range of BMI should be 30 or more. In case you've forgotten, BMI can be calculated by (weight in kg)/(height in metre)^2.

According to the published study in
Süddeutsche Zeitungm, overweight does not increase death rates, but instead extend the lifespan, while obesity does increase death rates by 20%. But as people grow older, obesity seems to be making less and less difference.

Although overweight is now claimed to be possibly bringing great benefits to individuals, but individuals should still watch out on their weights as being overweight could also possibly be an indication that the weight could lead to obesity eventually.

Agent in Easing Pain

Comfort foods are simple foods which are somewhat familiar to all of us, and these foods are usually home-cooked or even being served at many informal restaurants around town. These foods are often being related to the word "nostalgic" as people always associate those foods with their pleasant childhood; a phenomenon which in turns, providing a significant emotional consequence to a person or group of people.

Various foods and snacks are often categorized as comfort foods. Examples of comfort foods are such as ice creams, chocolates, chicken and dumplings, potato chips, and other various famous snacks. Many creative mixtures of foods have emerged that people term as comfort food. (cited from Wikipedia)

But of course, these foods could certainly bring you obesity if you consume them uncontrollably. Before you think that those comfort foods, besides giving you significant emotional improvement, all it does is raising your chance to be obese, think again!

Hold your horses on your thinking up to this point, because comfort foods are now also considered as edible foods which could also blunt pain. In the experiments which were conducted, mice were tested on how fast or slow their reaction would be in raising their paw when heat is released from a light bulb placed near the mice. Mice which were given chocolate chips or sugar water to be infused directly into their mouth, appeared to react much slower in raising their paw much slower to raise their paw, compared to those who were also awoke, but not eating.

Researchers believed that the purpose of the taste system is to give the animal a cue that helps it to decide what stimulus they should or should not pay attention to. But further details on this study is needed to be done to ensure the outcome of comfort foods ingestion.

Therefore, consuming comfort foods does not seem to be a bad thing after all, but consume moderately, as everything which is stretched beyond its limit brings toxicity.

Obesity & Depression

Obesity, a condition where individuals have reach the level of perception as being regarded as "over-weight" is very common especially in western countries such as the United States. But gradually, such phenomenon seems to become more and more prevalent in Asian countries as well. Depression, on the other hand, has been striking many people regardless of which countries they live in, either westerners or easterners, all individuals are at risk for this one.

A recent study shows that the relationship between obesity and depression is actually very closely related. Various comments on a new research paper on this topic is published in BMJ by Professor Mika Kivimaki from University College London.

Among the various comments, specialists and professionals such as Dr. Evan Atlantis from University of Adelaide's School of Medicine, explained that obese people who tend to perceive themselves as being overweight, would consequently present with the symptoms of low self-esteem adn guilt. Such phenomenon indicates that obesity is closely link to socioeconomic disadvantages and low levels of physical activities, where these are among the major predictors lead to depression.

He also added that being an obesed person, stress and tension feeling inside the individual could cause significant physiological dysfunction, a symptom which further contributes to depressed mood and associated symptoms.

But fortunately, the existence of GT&F Milk Powder proves to be able in improving depression as well as obesity. Hence, drink GT&F Milk everyday to prevent these two silent torturers!

Grab a Pet

Many individuals like pets and even have a thought of adopting a pet as their companions ever since they were still kids. Many times, pets can be adorable, pets can be your most loyal companion when you are all alone. But have you ever heard that pets could be a way in treating or improving certain diseases?

Currently, lowers blood pressure, exercises encouragement, the improvement of psychological health are not the sole effects which we could observe as the results of drugs or medicines, but fostering a four-legged, furry pet shows these effects scientifically as well.

University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine Research Center for Human-Animal Interaction (ReCHAI) will explore the many ways on how animals could benefit people of all ages during a conference in Kansas City late this month.

Rebecca Johnson, an associate professor in the MU Sinclair School of Nursing, the College pf Veterinary Medicine and director of ReCHAI mentioned that the older people who walked their dogs could improve their walking capabilities by 28 percent. Other than that, there are also conducted studies which show that pet ownership may have multiple health and emotional benefits for both children and adults.

OPP – Health and Motivation Talk

Our bodies are composed of several trillions of cells. These cells have specific duties and work together towards maintaining health. Every tissue in the body is made of cells and organs are organized clusters of related cells. Although cells differ in their functions but they require the same basic nutrients which is Glucose Tolerance Factor (GTF). GTF is the key to perfect health and the absence of disease.

Ms. Jessy Lim, a nutritionist have gave a product talk on 5th October 2009 (Monday). Healthy cells require healthy food. Healthy food is food eaten just as close to the way God made it as possible and that means the mother breast milk. GT&F® milk powder emulated the formula of mother breast milk through using patented biotechnology to create the structure of Lactoferrin Chromium. In addition, from her talk, the audiences knew that “GT&F® milk powder is the best medicine” because it does address cellular inflammation, cellular oxidation, lack of cellular energy, cellular toxicity and poor cellular communication. She also took the chance to advise all the audiences so to keep an eye for the influenza A(H1N1) infection eventhough the issue gradually ignored by the public.

Next up, Mr. Hugo Lim, one of the powerful leaders have also presented a motivation talk to the audience. He focus on the aspects of attitude and behaviour. He stressed the points that we should change our negative thinking or view in order to success in this business. A good leader must be able to act as a good role model for all his downlines. He himself must be always take care of his downlines benefits rather than his own benefits. Never be selfish to success in this business! Continuous sharing with and learning from others will make you to step further efficiently.

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Cholesterol for Brain Development

When an adult received his or her medical report from the pathlab or any related medical institutes, he or she would normally look closely at the number shown besides the words "cholesterol level".

Laymen out there often regard cholesterol as a bad constituents and they usually hope that they could put a efforts in eliminating these so-called hazardous cholesterol. But as a matter of fact, cholesterol actually can be generally categorized into two different categories, namely good cholesterol, HDL (High density lipoprotein) and bad cholesterol LDL (Low density lipoprotein).

If the amount of LDL cholesterol appears to be too much in the bloodstream. Eventually, this could lead to the formation of plagues and this consequently impair the flexibility of the arteries. Gradually, diseases such as atherosclerosis could occur.

On the other hand, when the high amount of HDL cholesterol present in the blood stream, they tend to carry the fats away from the arteries and bring them back to the liver. Thus, this could lower the risk of heart disease occurrence.

The details above are just for your additional information, but what we are going to discuss today, is about a new study which indicates that cholesterol proves to be a vital substances in brain development.

The research, led by Professor Ernest Arenas from a Swedish medical university, Karolinska Institutet, had demonstrated that a specific receptor in the brain by an oxidised form of a type of cholesterol called oxysterol is responsible in the formation of dopamine-producing neurons during brain development in mice.

Professor Arenas further postulated that the loss of oxysterol could be one of the main causal factors in the stimulation of Parkinson's Disease.

Large Fat Cells

Type 2 Diabetes has been revolve around us for quite some time, and this deadly disease, has long been considered as a disease which is uncurable. Scientists and researchers did not seem to successfully develop a specific vaccine for it.

Special thanks to Prof. Dr. Frank Mao for giving birth to GT&F Products which had brought so many benefits to numerous consumers in all these years. Although such a great and magnificent product has been developed several years ago, researches about diabetes must be continued at all cost for the sake of human health.

The latest piece of study which concerns about diabetes has been published in one of the issues in the scientific journal FASEB, a study which is extensively based on the population of women in Gothenburg Kvinnoundersokningen i Goteborg.

The result of the study indicates that women who store large fat cells within their bodies, would probably tend to have the potential in developing Type 2 Diabetes. Thus, a relationship between fat cells and Type 2 Diabetes can therefore be postulated as follow:

"The higher the waist-to-height ratio, the higher the risk in developing Type 2 Diabetes."

OPP ~ Health and Motivation Talks & GTF Recognition Session

Many of us have so many responsibilities in life that we forget to take care of ourselves. Many of people who suffer from all kinds of illness resulted from their unhealthy living conditions. Of course, it’s hard to prioritize something like giving 30 minutes to yourselves for daily exercise when you have so many other priorities in life. However, having a well-cared-for body can make you feel good about yourself and your life, and conveys to others that you value yourself.

Binge Drinking Undermines Immune System

Binge drinking is no longer an uncommon term as such trend is becoming more and more prevalent nowadays. Not only does it grouped in the category of prevalence, but the binge drinkers are affecting younger generations these day, including students.

Among all the possible bad consequences which affect the students are:

  • Missing class or work due to drinking.

  • Performing poorly on a test or important project.

  • Physical effects, including hangovers, nausea or vomiting, and memory loss.

  • Being sexually harassed or assaulted while drunk, or harassing or assaulting others.

  • Getting into arguments and fights, or being embarrassed by their own behavior while drunk.

  • Damaging property.

  • Getting hurt or injured after drinking.

  • Driving a car while under the influence of alcohol or being arrested for DUI.

  • Generally getting into trouble with the police or University authorities.
  • (Cited from The University Record, October 25, 1999)

As we can see, binge drinking has became a norm in many western countries in the year 1999, a good 10 years ago. In recent years, there are inclination and news indicate that students who dwell in Asia also tend to follow the infamous trend.

A latest study in September 2009, by a group of US researchers indicated that binge drinking, apart from causing common aftermaths such as oily heart, is now ascertained that it could impair the immune system of human as well.

According to the study which is published in the Journal of BMC Immunology, mice had been used as the targets of the experiment. These mice, after being heavily fed with alcohol, stops the body in making pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Since ethanol is suggested that it could suppress the ability of TLR4 (a protein which plays role in responding in appropriate cytokines production) in sending signals which would consequently producing the appropriate cytokines, the immune system could not work properly and thus resulting in the undermined of human immune system.

    How Bad Could They Be?

All of us know are very well-awared that physical activities which are practised by some people, including smoking, are terribly bad for our health. Apart from the bad and discouraged activities, awful health conditions such as having high readings of cholesterol in the body, as well as the high reading of blood pressure are also red alerts as far as health is concerned.

But how far could they harm us? Previously, the harmful extent of these activities and health condition were not measurable. But certainly not with today's advanced technologies and sciences.

Recently, a group of UK researchers had conducted a study on this particular matter. Their results pointed out that middle-aged individuals who smoke, have high cholesterol as well as high blood pressure can expect to live 10 to 15 years less than their counterparts who are healthy.

According to Dr. Robert Clarke from Oxford University, men who smoke, have high cholesterol level and high blood pressure are shown to be able to live until 74 years of age, while those who do not have these risk factors are expected to live until 83 years of age.

But it does not mean that the individuals who have such problems are destined to live shorter than the others. If individuals who have these risk factors change their lifestyle, take measure to deal with their blood pressure as well as body weight, life expectancy could be increased.

    Size of Your Thigh

The size of thigh has been a taboo topic, especially in the conversation among asians. But as a matter of fact, the size of thighs has already been a great reference topic in the olden days in the history as far as Chinese are concerned.

Ever since very very long time ago, when a female owns a huge size of thigh, the Chinese would certainly referring the huge size of thigh to the great ability of giving labor. They strongly believed that the huge size of thigh in a female is a great indicator on how many children the female would have in the near future, and of course, such assumption is still considered to be true to some people. Is there any scientific evidence to this? Well, we are not really sure about that.

Talking about scientific evidence relating to the size of thighs, here's a piece of news to reveal. Researchers had published a study in BMJ.com, about a shocking news relating to the size of thighs of individuals with certain diseases, and even death.

The research reported that men and women whose thighs are less than 60cm in circumference have a higher risk of premature death as well as heart disease. Apart from that, individuals whose thighs are greater than 60cm in circumference have no additional protective effect.

From the results of their studies, the reason why individuals with relatively smaller thighs are related closely with premature death as well as heart disease, is because those with smaller thighs normally have indications that they have lower muscle mass in the region. The researchers then explained that this could be very problematic as it would next lead to reduction of insulin sensitivity, and eventually triggering the occurrence of heart disease.

OPP ~ 21st Century Breakthrough Health and Beauty (Product Talk)

Knowledge is one of the driving forces of the wellness revolution and in modern societies there is an increasingly health-literate population. Products continually evolve due to technological, cultural and societal change. What was the greatest gift from the advance of biotechnology to health and beauty care in the 21st Century? It should be the GT&F® Milk Powder that mimics mother breast milk.

On 14th September 2009 (Monday), Ms Jessy Lim, a youthful yet eligible nutritionist had shared her knowledge on the GT&F® Milk Powder from all aspects included its history, its published research paper, its health benefits as well as its way to consume to all audiences. Cells group together to form tissues, tissues then group together to form organs and organs will in turn to form body systems. She told the audiences that just as we must have a strong foundation to support a home, so we must have "strong" cells to support good health, and keeping our cells healthy is not difficult, it is just simply as living with GT&F® Milk Powder.

Next up, the night was continued with a motivation talk by one of our crown managers, Mr Sim. He revolved his whole speech around a picture which portrays the relationship between success and motivation. Everyone must have direction in their life. C is for Skin

Vitamin C has long being regarded as a kind of vitamin which aids in preventing diseases like scurvy, and vitamin C is also said to be extremely effective in boosting our immune system. Besides all these greatness vitamin C can bring us, a recent study reveals further hidden strength this microelement can bring upon mankind.

This new role of vitamin C, concerns greatly with the health of our skin. Previously, news and studies of vitamin C in skin treatment seemed to be a statement which did not contain any supportive evidence. But for now, Researchers who hailed from the University of Leicester had found that Vitamin C helps in healing skin wounds as well as protecting DNA damage of skin cells.

Researchers mentioned that the ultraviolet rays from the sun might cause skin lesions, and in the long run, might also cause the occurrence of skin cancer, through the free radical formation and DNA damage. Such findings that Vitamin C aids in skin treatment just appear as a great gospel to all who are very much concern about their skins.

GT&F Products have great potentials in maintaining youthful skins in the consumers. In addition, if the consumers simply grab a citrus fruit each day, the skin treatment process as well as the outcome of skin protection will definitely be even greater and synergistic!

With that, further studies will be carried out to determine the relationship between Vitamin C and skin lesions, as well as the potential of Vitamin C in fighting cancers.
