Bad News for Coffee Drinkers

If you have been following the articles which are published in this blog site, you would have notice many articles which tell all the good deeds coffee could bring you. But beware, at least after going through this piece of article, as coffee could potentially harm you the other way.

Billboards everywhere in the town start promoting how great coffee is for the fact that it contains large amount of antioxidants, molecules which could prevent or slowing down the process of oxidation of other molecules. In other words, antioxidants play major role especially in anti-aging.

But coffee these days, starts to show the downsides which appear quite worrying. Researchers from Norwegian University Science and Technology (NTNU) underwent a study and published in the Journal of Headache Pain that, coffee actually could cause migraines.

Coffee is previously known to be a stimulant which could provide positive as well as negative consequences to the consumer. Anyhow, things have become a little confusing as recent studies again proved that coffee could potentially cause the emergence of migraines. The frequency of migraine sufferers appear to be 18% higher in those who had high consumption (around 500mg per day) than non-drinkers. In the other way, caffeine is scientifically known as a common ingredient which can relieve pain.

Hence, to drink, or not to drink, thus becomes a major concern among frequent drinkers. But cutting back the intake of caffeine might help because the reason why migraine sufferers who are also happen to be frequent consumer of coffee experience high precipitation of migraine, would probably caused by the high consumption of caffeine, and this also further explains the unawareness of migraine occurrence by non-frequent coffee drinkers.

Temporarily, that is. But have you ever wonder how binge drinking could affect us mentally in the long run?

A study which will be published in the near future in the November issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research, explains how binge drinking activities affect those drinkers downwardly.

Researchers had examined 95 university students, where 48 of them were males and 47 were females. From these 95 young adults, 42 of them were binge drinkers while the rest were non-alcohol dependent. Researchers used ERP (event-related potential) technique, a technique which is considered extremely sensitive to the presence of alcohol, to examine the participants.

Results found that those who were binge drinkers, showed anomalies while executing a task related to visual working memory, while the non-drinkers or individuals who were not dependent on alcoholic beverages, did not show such anomalies, and they appeared to have better attentive abilities as well as visual working memories than their counterparts.

Consuming alcoholic beverages only bring forward more and more problems to individuals, especially to youngsters nowadays. Replace your favorite alcoholic beverages with nutritious GTF Products now would be the best way for you to stay healthy always!

OPP ~ Nutrition Care For Obesity

While the world’s underfed population has declined slightly since year 1980 to 1.1 billion, the number of overweight people has surged to 1.1 billion. The obesity epidemic is not restricted to industrialized societies; the rate of obesity is increasing faster in developing countries than in the developed countries. The WHO projected that by 2015, approximately 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and more than 700 million will be obese. To your knowledge, obesity is a complex condition, with serious social and psychological dimensions, affecting virtually all ages and socioeconomic groups. Obesity and overweight pose a major risk for serious diet-related chronic diseases, including type-2-diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke and certain forms of cancer.

Therefore, there has been a great deal of global attention towards obesity problems. Mr Heng, a professional nutritionist had delivered a talk entitled “Nutrition Care for Obesity” on 10th August 2009 (Monday) during OPP night. He stressed the seriousness of obesity in Malaysia and also the world. Furthermore, he slowly brought out the information of causes and consequences of obesity to all audiences. He told all the audiences that by developing a good eating habit, obesity can be prevented. Firstly, include a wide variety of delicious and healthy foods especially vegetables, whole grains, or fruits into your diet. Secondly, strike a balance between your calorie intake and calorie expenditure. When the energy intake exceeds the expenditure of energy, body weight will increase and vice versa. Thus in order to maintain an ideal body weight, a balance between these two is vital. Thirdly, drink more water as water plays a role in cleansing the body system. Fourthly, limit yourself in taking sugary, salty, high cholesterol and refined products. Last but not least, exercise regularly!

Next up, the night was continued with a motivation talk by one of our crown managers, Mr Sim. He revolved his whole speech around a picture which portrays the relationship between people and money. He explained how significant it is in becoming healthy as well as wealthy in order to lead a happy life. Moreover, he also took the opportunity to introduce and also further elaborate goodness of our new GTF Marketing Plan to all the audiences.

Coming up next, a malay talk entitled "GTF – Kesihatan dan Kecantikan" will be presented to you by our company's nutritionist, Puan Masrisa on 17th August 2009 (Monday), from 8.00pm -10.00pm.

Bells Rang by Angina

Do you have any idea what an angina is? By looking at the picture, you'd probably know what it means. Severe chest pain could serve as its closest synonym.

Although by experiencing angina does not mean to be having high risk in having fatal problems such as myocardial infarction (heart attack), but such symptom appearance proves to be crucial and the person who experience this should take extra caution to his or her body condition.

The above statement is reassured when the researchers hail from National University of Ireland as well as those who come from University of Aberdeen, had published a recent study in British Medical Journal.

They claimed that men who have angina suffer two times of chances in having heart attack or dying compare to women. What the researchers think, is that such phenomenon happens due to more heart surgeries (two or three times more) being done on men compare to women.

Of course, bad lifetsyle such as heavy smoking, overweight as well as getting older also seem to be great contributors in developing the occurrence of angina. But the researchers are not really looking into this, but only made postulations by just studying medical records of the patients.

Since angina could very well live up as the sign of a potential heart attack, we should stop and not even let angina stand a chance to exist within us. One of the easiest, as well as best solution, would be by consuming GTF Products. Angina which relates to heart attack normally is due to oxygen deprivation in heart muscles.

In other words, glucose might have been forming blockage in the blood vessels which link to the heart. GTF products could easily provide the sufficient nutrients to enhance your body metabolism. Hence, glucose accumulated throughout the blood vessels can be metabolized effectively. Consequently, you can be ready to bid farewell to angina.

Conversion of Pancreatic Cells

In the past, stem cell researches had received great comments from the science field, but at the same time, causing great furore among the environmentalists, especially those who are against the alteration of nature.

As for now, there would probably be another piece of good news for diabetic patients, a very much similar research which resembles stem cells researches, that is, the possible conversion of non-insulin producing pancreatic cells to insulin producing beta cells in the near future.

This research, which is being led by Patrick Collombat and co-funded by Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), has been showing great possibilities and progress in the possible ways of converting non-insulin producing pancreatic cells into insulin-producing cells. A findings which is indeed magnificent.

The secret within, is just by altering a specific gene (Pax4) in alpha cells. The researchers have tested this experiment by using mice, and to their pleasant surpise, they realized that by producing new insulin-producing beta cells with this way, these cells function more efficiently, giving better of glucose level as well as prolonged the life of diabetic mice.

These findings are especially useful as far as Type I diabetic patients are concerned for their bodies could not produce insulin hormones, as they tend to become solely depending on medications and insulin injections.
