Arthritis is a group of conditions involving damage to the joints of the body (cited from Wikipedia). There are many types of arthritis which comes in different forms. Among all the different types of inflammations, the most common form would be osteoarthritis. This form of arthritis is a result of infection of the joint or age-related. Today, we are going to discuss about one of the osteoarthritis, knee arthritis.
A new study by Christoph Stehling and fellow colleagues suggest that middle-aged men and women who do lots of exercises, particularly exercises which involve high impact activities such as running and jumping. These activities might unknowingly causing serious damage to their knees and putting themselves at high risk of developing osteoarthritis.
The researchers concluded that for individuals who carried higher physical activities may expose to greater risks for cartilage and meniscal abnormalities. In the contrary, low-impact activities such as swimming and cycling may protect diseased cartilage and prevent health cartilage from developing disease. However, more studies are needed to carried out to make further confirmation on the effect of low and high impact activities with the progression of inflammation.
