In today's fast-paced society, people are eating more quickly, they prefer outside foods, they are lack of exercises. In addition, having to deal with more and more pressure nowadays, such inclination is really worrying. All these could contribute to the occurrence of hypertension. Just the slightest increase in blood pressure above the normal rate of 120/80 mmHg, it could increase your chances in getting eye-related disease, kidney disease, heart failure and many more.

Pn Masrisa, a senior nutritionist of our company had delivered a Malay health talk entitled “Penjagaan Pemakanan untuk Tekanan Darah Tinggi” on 27th July 2009 (Monday). In the beginning, she pointed out some facts about hypertension, including causes and symptoms of hypertension, its consequences, treatments as well as medicinal side effects. The most effective methods in controlling high blood pressure, as what Pn Masrisa had delivered, are by incorporating balanced diet and healthy lifestyle into your routine. Poor eating habits would definitely contribute significantly to unstable high blood pressure levels, especially for middle-age individuals.

On the other hand, she suggested by reducing the intake of sodium, cholesterol, sugar (especially those with high glycaemic index) and alcohol could decrease the chances of getting high blood pressure very effectively. Besides that, she also highlighted some interesting facts such as DASH (Diet Approaches to Stop Hypertension) and White Coat Hypertension (a situation where patients experience high blood pressure in front of doctors but nowhere else). Finally, she concluded the talk with an open-quiz session.

Next up, Pn. Masrisa demonstrated the proper ways in using electronic tensimeter. Some audiences volunteered to participate in the interactive session, a couple of them even requested for a double check to confirm their result. Lastly, the audiences all appeared to be motivated when they a newly composed song with the name “ε‰η¨‹δΈ‡ι‡Œ”. The song then marked the end of the OPP of the night.
